Scottish Police College

Published on: 15/05/2008

We provided a day seminar 'Improving your Memory and Learning Techniques' for members of the Scottish Police Service at the Scottish Police College. The seminar was designed for all members of Police staff who wished to try out a variety of techniques that would enhance their learning skills or the retention of facts. Using tried and tested memory techniques, such as learning maps and visualisation techniques, the session aimed to get people learning and working smarter rather than harder. Learning maps, mnemonics, visualisation recalls and linking were all memory and learning techniques that were introduced throughout the session.

Participants also had the opportunity to be tested on the techniques and to prove their effectiveness by means of an e-discussion group.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this session, you will be able to:

  • Identify appropriate effective memory and learning techniques for use in work
  • Detail a range of memory and learning techniques which can be used in everyday life
  • Produce and use a visual learning map
